Northern Commercials are proud to be part of The AA’s journey to fleet decarbonisation

Northern Commercials are proud to be part of The AA’s journey to fleet decarbonisation by providing The AA with some of the first operational fully electric recovery vehicles in the UK. Northern Commercials partnered with Roger Dyson to supply an IVECO eDaily 7.2t chassis cab and Victory Conversions to supply an Iveco eDaily 4.2t semi-window van. The vehicles were unveiled at a Fleet Decarbonisation event on Friday 24th May, featuring our very own Northern Commercials staff who travelled up to represent the company and discuss the potential of the new IVECO eDaily range. The AA are taking a “test and scale” approach to their journey to a net zero future providing an opportunity to test the impressive towing capacity, range and charging times of the IVECO eDaily range.

IVECO eDaily 4.2t Semi Window Van

The vehicle has undergone specialist conversion and body work to suit The AA’s desired specification and requirements. The versatility of the IVECO eDaily and outstanding work from Victory Conversion has resulted in a vehicle that will fit right into The AA’s elite recovery fleet. The 4.2t electric van features loading volume over 10 cubic meters allowing room for seats and tables in the background providing comfort to AA members. The 74kWh twin battery set up provides an approximate range of 160 miles while brandishing an impressive 0.8 hour recharge time (when using a 80 kWh charger). The impressive 3.5t towing capacity of the IVECO eDaily paired with a heavy-duty CRT (provided by TowPro Ltd), allows The AA to carry vehicles weighing up to 3,250kg. The eDaily is the only electric light commercial vehicle with the same towing capacity as a diesel vehicle, allowing the AA to use the electric vehicle as a substitute for traditional diesel vehicles while achieving their zero emissions goal. Due to government regulation, 4.25t electric vehicles can be driven on a category B driving licence.

IVECO eDaily 7.2t Chassis Cab

The 7.2t eDaily Chassis Cab featured Roger Dyson’s unique remote loading system which will be able to assist recovery operatives by deploying loading ramps manually. The electric chassis cab features a minimum range of 100 miles with an outstanding payload of 3t. The IVECO eDaily chassis solution grants a modular installation of 1, 2 or 3 batteries without protruding above the frame. This allowed the body to be built on the chassis as if it was a diesel chassis due to the powerful batteries being embedded within the frame. The IVECO Chassis Cab interior has been designed with the priority of comfort and ergonomics, providing a spacious cab for two passengers alongside the driver.
